"There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about." -Margaret Wheatley
This principle has guided the way Berkana supports healthy and resilient communities in the US and around the world. We're seeing others adopting this principle in a variety of settings - from communities of practice in New York City learning together across professions to government hosted conversations with key stakeholders on new approaches to ending homelessness.
Over the next three months there are several exciting events happening in North America, including the Art of Social Innovation, a gathering for groups who are commited to taking their work together to a whole new level, in Nova Scotia. We hope you will join us for an event or support the Opportunity Fund to allow more entrepreneurs and practitioners to attend.
We proudly announce that The New Prosperity Initiative (NPi) has joined the network of initiatives at Berkana. NPi is a Boston-based media organization that publicizes the efforts of people and organizations doing socially innovative work to end poverty and build prosperity. NPi connects community leaders in order to build a network of ideas and solutions that bring the best models, strategies, and leadership qualities to the places that need them most. NPi also hosts community dialogues for local leaders to discuss lessons learned, current projects, and potential collaborations. Read more about the New Prosperity Initiative
The Women's Leadership Revival Tour is coming to New York City this week. Women all over the world - in villages, governments, organizations - are stepping forward to offer their leadership in service to the issues most affecting their communities. Though their lives vary greatly in material resources, they each are providing a crucial resource, the gift of their leadership. Wherever women step forward to lead, significant changes happen and the whole system benefits. We invite you to join Margaret Wheatley and The Berkana Institute in New York City on March 25, 2010 for this inspiring event. Register Now.
The Powers of Place initiative, a collaboration between Berkana and the Fetzer Institute has launched its website. The initiative explores how place, space and environment contributes to individual and collective transformation. We believe that places are alive. We believe that right relationship between people and place results in tremendous transformative power. Over the past two years we've convened a series of meetings and research initiatives, the results of which are now available on our site. Explore the Project.
